As mentioned in a previous post, this is an online course of 15 lessons designed of to equip you to feel confident in deciding what work your property needs, what it should cost, and what steps you need to take to confirm to local regulations.

New content will be uploaded at least once a fortnight – once the content for this one is finished I will run some more in depth courses about different aspects of the process.

After 15 years of restoring properties here I have seen it all and am happy to share my know how!

This first course will cover:

1. Starting the process – choosing a tecnico (architect, engineer, geometra and what professional charges to expect. (already published)
2. Authorisations and permissions needed before starting work (already published)
3. Rules, regulations and obstacles – what you are allowed or not allowed to do based on property location (already published)

Establishing what work to do, including a glossary of every kind of work, in English and Italian

Getting quotes, or evaluating quotes someone else is getting for you

Costs of work – including a list of current prices for each kind of work

Tips and tricks and economical fixes for problems common to many properties

Pitfalls to avoid

Suppliers for sanitary ware, tiles, furniture
